Kornati - nautical paradise for sailors and visitors

Kornati national park are a nautical paradise for sailors and visitors. Kornati park is an archipelago of 89 gorgeous island, islets and reefs. There is an old saying: "As many days that many Kornati islands!"  As far as we know, nowhere else in this large sea is such a great number of islands situated in such a small space. it is a true labyrinth of the Adriatic.

The park is situated in the northern part of Dalmatia. It is a very popular place to visit! There is also a regatta Only 1/4 of the park is over the sea surface, the rest is a part of the under sea eco system.

The archipelago is divided in two parts (Gornji Kornati and Donji Kornati). The biggest island is named Kornat and the whole archipelago was named after him. 

The places to visit on the Kornati islands:

4. the oval-shaped Taljurič island
5. Piškera island
6. Špinuta Bay
7. Stivina Bay
8. Panitula Vela island
9. the fourth largest island Levrnaka

11. Smokvica Vela island

Some of the islands have interesting names like Babina Guzica and Kurba Vela. These are "bad words" and translated from Croatian then mean "grandmas butt" and "prostitute". You are probably wondering why are the island named like that? Well, when Austrian surveyors arrived to record the archipelago at the end of the 19th century, their local guides mocked them by making up vulgar names for the various locations and so the names .

 
On the island "Levrnaka" is a sandy beach "Lojena" one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia. It is located on the southwest side of the island Levrnaka and if there check the beach out!
