First time on a boat - watch out for following

Published: 11. August, 2022

Never have been on a boat? Never sailed along the Croatian coast? Never sailed in general? Here is a perfect article for all beginners on a sailing boat.

A boat is different from an apartment, one needs to be more careful while on the boat. :)

There are few more topics which could be interesting for you: Is Croatia easy and good for sailing? Do I need a licence to sail a boat in Croatia?  Why you should visit Split.

1. Watch your step

It is important to be mindful of your surroundings to prevent accidents. When you are outside, be careful where you step to avoid damaging windows and having to pay for repairs. It's also crucial to watch your step when climbing stairs to avoid falling, as well as to avoid accidental falls in water.

2. No paper in the toilette

Paper tissues cannot go into toilette, they need to go in the bin (mini garbage trash next to the toilette seat). The pipes in the boat are small and narrow and paper will block them. This is really not convenient for you as you will need to pay extra for the unblocking and for our colleagues who will need to unblock this with their hands. That is why you need to be extra careful with the toilette paper and not throw it down the toilette.

3. Take care of the boat

A boat is very delicate and you should maintain it during your sailing holiday. With maintain one means to clean the kitchen and the saloon area a little bit each day, so that you live in a clean space, but the boat also doesn't soak up the smell of dirty dishes - with this said, the windows need to be open once in a while so that fresh air circulates through the boat.

4. Weather forecast

It is really, really important that you check the weather forecast almost every 4 hours, especially if you are sleeping outside of the marina on the anchor. The weather can change within a second and you really need to be careful and check it all the time.
