Jelsa is small town situated in the middle of the north coast of the island Hvar. Jelsa offers safe mooring during south and west winds, and it is also  protected during “bura” (north winds).

We have visited Jelsa during second part of June 2015 and were quite surprised since it was quite calm and quiet during early afternoon.  City keys were almost empty, there was only one boat moored. Later in the afternoon other boats started to arrive, but at 17.00h there were still few moorings free!

So although there is very small waterfront with moorings (on the bigger part of the waterfront there are no moorings, just on the right side there are approximately 8-15 moorings), it is surprisingly calm during late afternoon.

Since we were last time in Jelsa in 2005, we haven’t got this information so we came too early, realising after mooring there, that there is no nice beach nearby for swimming with kids.

Jelsa is very nice for having dinner there, it has few restaurants. One very cosy restaurant with great salads is right on the waterfront- very convenient for lazy holidays- without going too far away from your boat :)

Also there is nice lounge bar just on the waterfront. There are few shops, kiosks, variuos souvenir shops, ice cream shops, and all tourist kind of shops for one who are shop-o-holics (like part of our crew was).

Also there is ATM machine, and bank next to the moorings.

I recommend Jelsa for staying overnight, but if you are looking for a nice beach, you should consider coming bit later and anchoring before coming to Jelsa for  quick swimming stop.

It is also good point if you would like to meet part of your crew, since European Coastal airlines planes are flying from Kastela / Split to Jelsa.
